Dons boss Mark McGhee controversially sacked Jim Leighton from the role last month, ending the former Scotland and Manchester United keeper's long association with the club.[LNB]Former Wimbledon keeper Hans Segers - currently coaching at PSV Eindhoven - and Meldrum were McGhee's two targets but he has settled on the latter, who he worked with before leaving Motherwell this summer.[LNB]Meldrum confirmed on Motherwell's official website: "I've been at Motherwell for four years now and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here.[LNB]"It's a good club, a family club, and I'll miss the place. But I think it is time for me to move on and Aberdeen was a good option for me.[LNB]"I've left on good terms though and I want to wish everyone at Motherwell every success in the future."[LNB]McGhee told RedTV: "We approached Motherwell about Colin Meldrum and they've been sympathetic - they know that Colin wants to come here."[LNB]McGhee claimed Leighton was sacked because the club could not afford to retain a coach who only specialised in one area.[LNB]He said of 33-year-old Meldrum, who is 18 years Leighton's junior: "He's got expertise in the gymnasium; he's got expertise on the physical fitness side of it. He brings a lot more than simply being a goalkeeping coach.[LNB]"He's young, he's ambitious, he's enthusiastic. He brings a lot to my team."[LNB][LNB]
