Vern Keen To Keep Scoring

Dons striker Scotty Vernon is desperate to get the chance to prove his form has returned.

Super-sub Vernon struck a superb goal on the spin just three minutes after replacing youngster Cammy Smith to take the three points against Caley Thistle.

The 29-year-old striker also recently fired in a pressure-filled penalty against Alloa in the League Cup to take the shootout to sudden death.

And that combined with his instinctively-struck winning goal on Saturday demonstrate signs that Vernon's confidence is returning - and he is keen to regain his first-team slot to prove that is the case.

He said: "It felt good. It's a situation where I want to get chances and prove myself. I've not played as much as much as I would have liked at the start of this season, and each minute on the pitch is a chance to change that.

"Helping the team to three points, will help with that, and in the future when I get more chances I can hopefully continue to do that."

Vernon is currently behind Niall McGinn, Calvin Zola, and Josh Magennis in the Pittodrie pecking order, but hopes his hard work combined with his stunning strike will change that.

He said: "It's been frustrating. You keep plugging away. I'm not one to get down. I try to look on the bright side and stay positive, I keep chipping away in training and working my hardest. I feel that if you sulk about, you don't get anywhere and don't help yourself."
