The club have launched an investigation into Tuesday's incident in Aberdeen city centre, which left the 27-year-old needing hospital treatment. The club confirmed that Kerr had been charged in connection with the incident and they vowed to punish any players who are found to have instigated the trouble. The former Falkirk and Dundee United player will miss Sunday's Scottish Premier League clash against Hibs at Pittodrie, which the Dons must win to have any chance of qualifying for the Europa League. Kerr told the club's official website: "Believe me, I am totally gutted to be missing Sunday's hugely important match against Hibs as a result of the incident on Tuesday night, which left me requiring hospital treatment. "I sincerely apologise to the fans, the club and also my team-mates for not being available for such a crucial game but I'm confident the lads will do what is needed to keep our European dreams alive." An Aberdeen spokesman said on Thursday: "Some of the players were out on a social evening ahead of their day off on Wednesday and there was an incident in a city-centre club which spilled out on to the street. "As a result, Mark received injuries which needed treatment in hospital and consequently he will miss Sunday's game against Hibs. "We are currently attempting to establish exactly what occurred although I can confirm Mark Kerr has been charged in connection with the incident. "If any of our players are found to have instigated any trouble, they will be dealt with severely. "At the moment our main concern is that Mark makes a full and speedy recovery from the injuries sustained."
