Aberdeen striker Jamie Smith is close to signing a new contract with the Dons.
Boss Jimmy Calderwood is pleased that the 25-year-old former Celtic forward has decided his future lies at Pittodrie, after losing Markus Heikkinen and Kevin McNaughton to Luton Town and Cardiff City respectively.
Smith was due to become a free agent at the end of the season and a relieved Calderwood told the Daily Record: "Everything is going well as far as the new deal is concerned.
"Of course, you're always scared until the contract is signed as we've had good players leave here for nothing in recent times.
"But I'm optimistic about these negotiations as he was the one that instigated them because he was so happy here and he's not the sort of person that lies.
"The lad wants to stay at Aberdeen where his family is settled and I'll do the best I can to keep him at the club."
