Aberdeen winger Jamie Smith faces yet another spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a groin injury during training this week.
The 26-year-old is set to have a cortisone injection to try and settle the problem down, but boss Jimmy Calderwood fears a third bout of surgery may be required.
He told the Press & Journal: "Jamie is in a lot of discomfort, stemming from a bone, and our medical people have to discuss it.
"The doctors have been talking about an injection right into the bone to see how it reacts.
"Fortunately, if you can say that about an injury, it is not the same problem which led to the operation. It is in the same area, but it is an irritation on the bone rather than anything which could be operated on.
"We don't know how it happened. After the operation he was still feeling some pain, but it has got worse and is now causing a lot of discomfort."
