Smith sets sights on new Dons deal

Smith made his first appearance in five months as a substitute in Saturday's goalless draw with Kilmarnock after a serious back problem.

The former Celtic man is out of contract in the summer and he is determined to prove he deserves a new deal.

"The contract issue was at the back of my mind," Smith told the Press & Journal. "My main focus was on getting back fit again.

"The most important thing for me in the last five months has been getting back to playing again.

"I do not know when talks will start, it is a question for the manager or the board, but I will just wait and see what happens. My family are settled here and I love it at the club. It is a privilege to play for this club.

"For me just being back and part of things again was great. There are a lot of games left and, hopefully, I can play my part.
