Goal-shy Aberdeen have been dealt a serious blow with the news that key midfielder Scott Severin is likely to be out of action for the next two months.
The Scotland star had been making good progress in his recovery from a groin injury but has now been told he needs surgery to clear up the problem.
Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood accepts Severin's absence will be a major setback as he looks to guide the club to a UEFA Cup spot.
"I hope the hospital schedule allows the surgery to be done immediately and we have him back playing as soon as possible," he told the Daily Record.
"But there's no disguising the fact this is a massive blow for the player and the club. He initially thought he would be fit to return after a couple of weeks but now it looks like he'll be out until the league split at the earliest. It's a major setback for me."
