Aberdeen midfielder Scott Severin faces at least a month on the sidelines after suffering a fractured foot in Tuesday's CIS Cup quarter-final defeat at Motherwell.
The Scotland international was told the bad news after having X-rays on the injury on Thursday and Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood is now concerned that Steve Lovell could also be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The striker has missed the last three matches with a knee problem and is set to have a scan on the injury.
"Scott Severin got injured in a tackle early on at Motherwell and tried to battle through it, which says a lot for the boy," Calderwood told the Daily Record.
"Maybe it would have been better if he had come off immediately as he will be out for between four and six weeks.
"It's a massive blow because he has been one of our more important players in the past. But he is a very honest lad and will admit he has not been performing lately.
"Obviously, I am hoping the scan doesn't show any lasting problem with Lovell either.
"But injuries are part of the game and other clubs such as Dunfermline and Rangers have suffered more than us."
