Scobbie targets new Bairns deal

May has begun moved to extend Scobbie's contract, which still has three years to run. The Falkirk manager is also trying to secure the long-term future of Darren Barr, whose deal expires at the end of the season. Scobbie is focused on taking three points from Monday night's Scottish Premier League visit of Aberdeen, but he is willing to discuss a new contract. And he has taken confidence from his manager's persistence on the matter. "He spoke to me as soon as I came back after the summer and said that I had a major role in his plans," the 21-year-old revealed. "It has shown so far. He is a man who sticks to his word. "Of course he wants to try to hold on to certain players and hopefully he can negotiate a new contract with Darren Barr. I think that would be a great boost to the club. "Obviously Scott Arfield has had some interest in the transfer window so he has to look at players like that and keep them at the club. "But if he wants to sit down with me and have a chat, then that would be great. "I've still got three years left on my deal, but he has already expressed his interest in signing me on a longer deal. When the time comes, we will sit down and talk." Falkirk are bottom of the SPL after losing their first three matches but Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire expects a tough test. "We know what we have to do, we know it will be a tough game, they are bottom of the league and have not won a game," Maguire said. "But they will be hoping to put that behind them and win the first game of the season, and they are at home as well. "Previous seasons we have had tough games against them, and they have a new manager as well, so it will be a close game." Aberdeen will move into fourth place if they win at Falkirk after beating Hamilton and drawing with Motherwell in their previous two games. "We are still a few games into the season and we know we can get better," Maguire added. "That's a good thing, that we know we can get better. There is room for improvement and I'm sure as the weeks go on, we will get better."
