Aberdeen left-back Richie Byrne has received a boost with the news that his latest hamstring problem is not as serious as initially feared.
The Irishman was expected to be sidelined for around six weeks after aggravating an existing injury on his return to SPL action in the 3-1 defeat against Hearts last weekend.
However, a scan has revealed the injury is just a small tear and Byrne should be fully fit in time to face Kilmarnock on October 14.
Meanwhile, Dons defenders Zander Diamond and Karim Touzani are both doubts for Sunday's clash with Rangers.
The pair are close to being fit after respective ankle and hamstring problems, but manager Jimmy Calderwood does not want to risk them aggravating their injuries by rushing them back for the trip to Ibrox.
