Dons tough Italian defender rallies the troops ahead of crucial Falkirk showdown. DONS defender Davie Grassi has called on his team-mates to unite and fight to save Aberdeen from the drop. Grassi, 24, was the only Dons player to emerge with any credit from Sunday's 3-1 home defeat to St Johnstone, with virtually every fan on the Aberdeen-Mad messageboard naming him man of the match on their return from the game. And the Italian defender-turned-midfielder says the Dons – who have never been relegated – must pull together to stay in the SPL. He said: "Now were are in very, very big danger of going in the First Division. We must stay all together, we must fight. Five games left and we need to win two. "I don't want to go down to the First Division because I didn't come here to Aberdeen for misery, to go down with Aberdeen. "We need to stay in the SPL. We can't go down – impossible." Grassi signed a one-year contract at Pittodrie last summer and Dons boss Mark McGhee said last week that he is desperate for the Italian to sign a new deal. Grassi added: "I'm happy here. I'm enjoying it here. I don't want Aberdeen to go to the First Division. "It's a big club, a famous club, big history. I hope to sign a new contract because I enjoy it here."
