Pressure eases as Dons seek rare win

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee hopes a lull in the interest surrounding his future will allow his team to play without fear against St Johnstone at Pittodrie. Aberdeen went into their previous home fixture on the back of reports McGhee would lose his job if they lost against Inverness, following their 9-0 humiliation against Celtic. However, despite a 2-1 defeat to the Highlanders, McGhee retained his position following two days of talks with the board and prepared for the 2-0 defeat by Rangers last weekend amid a continued flurry of media attention. But Scotland's friendly win over the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie took the focus away from the Dons this week and McGhee feels the easing of pressure could help his side as they look to improve on a run of one win in 11 Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches. "There doesn't seem to have been any spotlight on us this week," McGhee said. "There was the international and we have been allowed to get on with what we're doing. "At football clubs, quite often when a manager leaves suddenly they get a great result and everyone says, `How did that happen?'."
