Pawlett Relishes Wing Competition
Aberdeen forward Peter Pawlett is looking forward to starting the new season with a clean slate.
Pawlett has had a stuttering start to his Dons career since making his debut 5 years ago as one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football,
Major injuries, a loan spell at St Johnstone, and controversy over 'dives' in Aberdeen matches have led to many wondering if the kid can make it.
But admirable perseverance from Pawlett has meant that he is in the mix for a regular first-team berth in the coming season, despite the addition of Gregg Wylde to the AFC squad.
Pawlett, Wylde and Johnny Hayes will battle for the wide slots in the Dons team, but Pawlett is relishing the challenge.
He told the Daily Record: "There is strong competition now with the wingers.
"Jonny Hayes and I were the only two at the end of last season but that has changed now with Gregg Wylde coming in.
"The competition can only be a good thing for the club as we will all be battling it out for a spot."
Pawlett has had a promising pre-season, capped with the last goal of four scored against UCD on Tuesday.
"I have tried a lot of things over the years because my early career has been a bit stop-start," he added.
"But the work I have been doing recently has been the most successful so far.
"It has definitely prevented me pulling my hamstring again. I am confident my injury problems are behind me and I am going to have a good season.
"I am sure there will be more of a cutting edge to our play this season and that we will find a system that suits us."
