Paton pleads for start at Falkirk

Paton won the sponsor's award for man of the match after coming off the bench at half-time during the goalless draw against Motherwell last time out. The 20-year-old - who netted his first Dons goal against Rangers in May - is looking to make himself a first-team regular under Mark McGhee. And he is confident that he can continue making progress, urging the manager to start him in the SPL clash at the Falkirk Stadium. "It feels as if when I play here, that I'm taking a big step at a time," Paton said. "That's my first man of the match at this level, but to come on at half-time to get it is a great confidence boost. "Hopefully it's making the manager think a bit more about me starting on Monday night. "It's hard competition, everybody is looking so sharp up front just now. "But hopefully I did enough when I came on against Motherwell. I did get man of the match but that doesn't really matter, it only matters what the manager thinks and who he is going to put up front on Monday." Paton believes the Dons are in good shape after recovering from a shaky start to McGhee's reign with clean sheets against Hamilton, who the Dons beat 3-0, and Motherwell. And the international break has helped McGhee prepare his team for games against Falkirk and St Mirren. "Because we had the wee break, we had double sessions basically every day," Paton told RedTV. "We've been working on short, sharp stuff so we're well prepared for Falkirk. "After playing so well against Hamilton and Motherwell, we are going into the game looking strong. "I think Falkirk are a really good team so I don't think we are going to go down there and think it's going to be an easy game. "We played really well against Hamilton and Motherwell were a lot sharper than Hamilton and gave us a better game. "It was nothing each but I thought we did really well and created a lot of chances. Hopefully we can create chances on Monday and get a couple of goals." The Greenock-born forward added: "The manager was saying to us that these should be two games which we should be winning. "Everybody is looking so good just now so I don't see why we can't take six points."
