Aberdeen winger Jamie Smith is set to be out until November as he requires surgery on a groin problem.
The Dons had hoped to have the 25-year-old back in action in around six weeks time, but Smith now faces an extended stint on the sidelines.
Manager Jimmy Calderwood told the Evening Express: "It is a blow but surgery is the only way to clear up the problem.
"Jamie had been playing through a lot of pain and all credit to him for doing that in the opening weeks of the season.
"But it was decided the injury had to be sorted, so that is what will be done at the weekend."
