Mowbray Joins Dons - As A Player
Sacked Celtic boss makes sensational Pittodrie playing switch. SHAMED former Celtic gaffer Tony Mowbray has made a shock move to Aberdeen - as a player. The humiliated Hoops boss has signed an two-month amateur playing contract with the Dons in order to get around tight twixt-window transfer dealing regulations. And Mowbray, who will be living out of a static caravan during his Aberdeen stay, is desperate to get his playing career back on track after a number of catastrophic spells in management. Dons boss Mark McGhee sounded Mowbray out about the move as early as last June, when the pair met outside the Parkhead interview room. It is thought that the Celtic-mad duo agreed in principle that very afternoon that Mowbray would move to the Dons if his managerial career went arse-about-tit. Yesterday, McGhee said: "You know, Tony is someone I have been tracking for months. "We have big problems in defence you know with Andrew Considine out injured and Jerel Ifil currently suffering from being s****, and big Tony will provide excellent defensive cover in central areas. "Mowbray's Easter Island statue-style head will be perfect alongside Zander Diamond at the heart of the defence, you know, as we make our late charge towards, you know, the top six." Mowbray is set to make his debut for the Dons in Sunday's high-profile clash with former boss Jimmy Calderwood's Kilmarnock, which will be beamed live in stunning 3D on Sky Sports.
