Aberdeen director of football Willie Miller has defended the decision to retain the services of Mark McGhee and insists the manager is committed to helping the club out of their current slump.

Miller admits there are concerns at Pittodrie, but that McGhee has the appetite to turn results around.

"We have problems and issues, but we've discussed it with the manager," Miller told the BBC. "We had long and frank discussions with the manager to find out where he was and if he was still up for the fight."

He added: "He certainly came over as still being as passionate as he was when he came to the club."

Two days of talks over McGhee's future took place last week following the 9-0 loss at Celtic and the 2-1 defeat to Inverness. The Dons issued a statement following the discussions, opting to stick with McGhee.

A 2-0 loss to Rangers followed, leaving Aberdeen in 11th place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with four points out of a possible 33 from the last 11 games.
