McInnes Plans Aberdeen Overhaul

New Dons gaffer Derek McInnes has suggested that it will take major surgery to turn Aberdeen into a successful club again.

Former manager Craig Brown believes that he has left a good legacy for McInnes, saying "the nucleus of a very good team" exists at Pittodrie. But new boss McInnes respectfully disagrees with AFC non-executive director Brown, who failed to take the Dons into the top six or as far as a cup final in his three seasons at the club.McInnes said: "People will have their own opinions but for me, the fact that we have not made the top six for four seasons suggests there are more than a few tweaks needed."One player McInnes will be hoping to keep hold of is top goalscorer Niall McGiinn - the first player to score over 15 league goals for the Reds in 12 years.McInnes added: "I want to keep Niall at the club. I tried to take him to St Johnstone. In fact, I cracked a joke with him saying that he wouldn't come to me so I had to come to him instead. "Hopefully Niall will see staying with Aberdeen will be progress for him until he wins a bigger move."
