McInnes Plots Dons' Flying Start

New Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is determined to ensure pre-season preparations set up his team to hit the ground running in the new season.

The 2013/14 fixtures were announced yesterday and McInnes knows that a flying start to the new term will heap confidence upon the players - and see the Dons support swell.Despite the gaffer's unbeaten record in his five matches in charge of Aberdeen, McInnes is acutely aware that the team underperformed last season, with an atrocious goalscoring record at Pittodrie. And with the fixture computer setting up a home opener against Kilmarnock, McInnes is determined to go from the 'B' of the bang to set up a season at the top end of the table. He said: “It’s so important that we get off to a good start in terms of re-enforcing belief about the club.“We need to hit the ground running in the new season as we want to try and raise confidence within the club.“I’d certainly take a fast start if it was offered to me but you don’t get prizes as players after the first few games. Aberdeen have made positive starts in the past then didn’t push on to fulfil that early promise.“But like every supporter, I can’t wait for the season to start and hope the players return with the same enthusiasm that I have.”
