McGhee talks up Magennis

Former Cardiff City striker Josh Magennis has been backed to be a success in the SPL, after completing a move to Aberdeen.

The 19-year-old Northern Ireland international was allowed to leave the Bluebirds at the end of last season, having made just one start for the club, but Dons boss Mark McGhee is confident that Magennis has much to give.

He told the club's official website: "He is only young and I'm not putting any expectations on him at all. He has come here to work hard and develop.

"We have got work to do there, but we think we have a tremendous asset.

"I have been aware of Josh for quite some time. I spoke to Dave Jones at Christmas and at that point we were contemplating taking him on loan this season.

"Then he was released, which I found surprising, but wanted to benefit from."
