McGhee sorry for Hegarty jibe
04 Jan 2010 - 08:58:35
Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee has apologised to Paul Hegarty after claiming the former Dundee United player threatened to break his legs during their playing careers.
McGhee upset former Scotland number two Hegarty when he slammed the decision to send off Davide Grassi during his side's 1-0 win over the Terrors on Saturday.
Grassi saw red after appearing to kick out at United's Andy Webster during the game at Tannadice.
"I apologise if I caused offence to Paul," McGhee told BBC Scotland.
"He was one of the United players I played against regularly and was the first name that came into my head.
"I accept he never said anything like that to me when we were playing.
"It was a tongue in cheek remark, a throwaway line. I never meant to cause him any offence and I apologise to him if I have offended him."
