McGhee welcomes fixture logjam

Tuesday night's Scottish Premier League clash with Falkirk was the second Dons match to be called off in four days following the postponement of Saturday's game at St Mirren.[LNB]There are still plenty of free midweek dates for both matches to be played so McGhee has no fears of a logjam.[LNB]The former Dons striker said: "I think there are a couple of dates that we can put games in.[LNB]"We're going to play Saturday-Wednesday but I know as a player myself, that was something I enjoyed.[LNB]"So I don't think the players should have any great fears of that.[LNB]"I think the season I left here or the season before I left, I played 74 games or something like that."[LNB]McGhee had no complaints about the postponement of last night's match, which was one of four midweek SPL games called off after snow and ice played havoc with roads and pavements surrounding stadia.[LNB]"I've seen what was out there," he said.[LNB]"About six o'clock last night, I was coming back from swimming with my wee fellow and there was a blizzard and it actually was minus five and a half degrees.[LNB]"So I think by eight o'clock it would have been pretty dreadful for people."[LNB]The postponements could give any signings McGhee makes in the January transfer window two more matches this season.[LNB]However, one of those games is unlikely to be Saturday's trip to Dundee United, which the Dons boss was hoping would see a debut for Paul Marshall.[LNB]"We are trying to process his registration as quickly as possible," said McGhee of the Manchester City midfielder, who is set to join on loan until the end of the season.[LNB]"We're not quite sure if that's going to be affected because we're told now the actual transfer deadline because of the holidays doesn't open up until the 4th in England.[LNB]"So that could hold that up and he may not be available for the Dundee United game.[LNB]"Nonetheless, he's here for a bit longer than that so if he's not available for Dundee United then we'll get on with it."[LNB]McGhee is also attempting to snatch Plymouth striker Steven MacLean from under the noses of Hearts.[LNB]He said: "He's trained at Hearts this week but my understanding is that he's available, that his representatives are negotiating with Plymouth for some sort of exit strategy - whether it be a loan or whether it be a permanent deal."[LNB]The prospect of resurrecting a move for Paul Obiefule depends on the Nigerian midfielder's willingness to demonstrate he has fully recovered from cartilage surgery.[LNB]McGhee went back in for Obiefule after learning the player may still be on the market after leaving Lyn Oslo, despite claims he had signed for another Norwegian club.[LNB]The Dons boss now wants him to return to Pittodrie to train with his squad.[LNB]"Until he's prepared to do that then there won't be any more progress," McGhee said.[LNB][LNB]
