McGhee to assess six trialists

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee will assess a total of six trialists during their weekend friendlies against Fraserburgh and Peterhead. Most of the players have been training with the Dons for at least one week and will get a run-out on either Saturday or Sunday. McGhee has two left-backs to run the rule over - Wales Under-21 international Grant Basey, who played for Charlton last season, and 25-year-old Robbie Williams, who was released by Huddersfield this summer. Midfielder Yoann Folly is also on trial - he worked under Paul Sturrock at Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth - while former West Ham youth player Conor Okus remains at the club. Former Carlisle and Darlington left winger Jeff Smith, 30, and Pakistan international Adnan Ahmed, a former Manchester United youth who played for Ferencvaros last season, make up the half dozen. McGhee said: "There is no centre-half or centre-forward, which are positions we are looking to fill, so there is still a lot of work to do."
