McGhee taking nothing for granted

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee is wary of SPL bottom club St Mirren as he takes his side to Paisley seeking to extend their unbeaten run.[LNB] Having accumulated one point out of a possible 18 in the previous six games, McGhee has overseen two victories in a week.[LNB]The Dons beat Hibernian 4-2 in the SPL last Saturday and then qualified for the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final - where they will face Celtic - after a 2-1 win over Falkirk.[LNB]St Mirren have just one win - against Hibs in August - and five points this term, but McGhee is avoiding complacency despite his side's upturn in fortunes.[LNB]"You can't separate us at the moment," McGhee said. "We have no right to anything in terms of how we've done.[LNB]"Sometimes things don't go for you. At the moment it would appear that nothing much is going for St Mirren. We've got to make sure that we don't change their luck."[LNB]The Buddies were many people's tip for relegation from the top flight this term, but McGhee is focused on his own team's performance and moving further away from the foot of the table.[LNB]He added: "A few people have been tipped, so they won't pay a lot of attention to that. At the moment it's too early to start making judgements on who might and who might not go down.[LNB]"We've got to improve. We've got to go there and start to try and put some daylight between ourselves and the other teams at the bottom."[LNB]And despite two wins in quick succession, McGhee saw plenty of margin to improve in Tuesday night's victory, which saw Paul Hartley score twice, including in the third minute of stoppage time, to ensure Aberdeen's progression.[LNB]McGhee said: "We didn't play a lot of football, we slugged it out in the end. The players felt they maybe should've been taken to extra-time.[LNB]"It wasn't quite the euphoria it would have been had we won comfortably on the back of the Hibs game. They know there's work to be done. They knew that they can do better."[LNB]Many of Aberdeen's problems have been related to a lengthy injury list and McGhee said compromises are still being made, particularly in defence, where Jerel Ifil has been playing at right-back.[LNB]"We don't have a career right-back so we're improvising," he said. "We've got to improvise, therefore we're not always going to look as tidy as we want to be and sometimes we're going to have to scrap defensively."[LNB]Yoann Folly, who missed the win over the Bairns, remains a doubt with an ankle injury, Andy Considine (knee) and Nikola Vujadinovic (hamstring) are still struggling, while Peter Pawlett (broken toe) and long-term casualty Fraser Fyvie are out.
