McGhee has confidence concerns

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee is concerned his players' confidence could hit rock bottom after they limped to a 2-0 defeat at Kilmarnock.

The Dons, who have now collected just four Clydesdale Bank Premier League points from a possible 39, never looked like coming back following Jamie Hamill's penalty early in the second half. Although they had decent spells of possession in the first half, Killie were in control after Conor Sammon's 18th-minute opener.

McGhee said: "There is a danger at this point, for the first time, that the confidence really starts to go."

Aberdeen were top of the SPL after winning their first two games but are now joint bottom with Hamilton on 10 points and have failed to pick up a point since McGhee convinced the board he could turn the club around a fortnight ago.

He previously claimed he could see signs of improvement but tonight said: "I have to be really careful now.

"We went out believing we had a shape that would give us a chance to deal with Killie and their expansive play and still give us a chance of winning the game.

"The first half showed that was true, but we didn't."

McGhee admitted his side lacked any threat following Hamill's 50th-minute goal.

"We didn't look to have any more energy left to get a goal and that was disappointing," McGhee said. "But I think the game was lost earlier than that. My concern is why we weren't able to get a goal in the first half.

"We huffed and puffed but there was no edge to it. We played some good stuff on the right-hand side in the first half, Chris Maguire looked a handful but we didn't create any meaningful chances."
