McGhee: Draw was well deserved

The League Division One team were on the brink of a major shock on Saturday but Gary McDonald popped up in the allocated fifth minute of injury-time to earn the Dons a 1-1 draw.[LNB]It was hard luck on Raith, famously League Cup winners over Celtic in 1994, as they looked set to enjoy another notable triumph after Iain Williamson's sweet 18-yard volley in the first half.[LNB]Aberdeen, beaten by Queen's Park, Queen of the South, Dunfermline and Dundee in cup contests in the last four seasons, breathed a sigh of relief.[LNB]However, McGhee felt the last-gasp goal was merited at Stark's Park.[LNB]He said: "Had we lost that game it would have been an injustice.[LNB]"Their goal in the first half came against the run of play.[LNB]"I was quite satisfied with the pressure we were building up on them. We kept pressing for the goal.[LNB]"If we had been looking at going out I wouldn't have believed it.[LNB]"I would have said there is something wrong with this game if we had gone out. That result was the least we deserved.[LNB]"I was starting to think the curse of the cup for us was happening again, the way things were going, but I still think we deserved the goal we got back."[LNB]Counterpart John McGlynn refused to point the finger at referee Willie Collum for the five minutes added.[LNB]The leveller came literally 30 seconds from the finish to break home hearts.[LNB]He said: "He reckons when Laurie (Ellis) went off injured there were three minutes to add and the time for the substitutes.[LNB]"We have all been here before, it's a Scottish Cup tie and you have to go to the last kick of the ball. I think we all thought we had done enough.[LNB]"In the second half I thought we defended especially well, but the wee break of the ball from the cross (from Sone Aluko) has landed at the guy's feet. Fortunately for Aberdeen, they have managed to sneak a goal."[LNB]The replay has been pencilled in for Tuesday week at Pittodrie and McGlynn says their chance of a quarter-final berth has not yet gone.[LNB]The former Hearts coach, a cup winner at Tynecastle in 2006, added: "Aberdeen were obviously going to put us under pressure and have a lot of the ball but I don't think they created an awful lot.[LNB]"We are disappointed, but we have to go up to Aberdeen now and the tie is still alive as far as I'm concerned.[LNB]"It's advantage Aberdeen, but the crowd might get on their back in the replay and they have also lost games at home this season. We just deal with it and move on."[LNB]McGlynn's side are sprinkled with players boasting previous Premier League experience and he couldn't resist singling out at least three for special praise.[LNB]He said: "I thought Mark Campbell and Grant Murray were immense in defence. Mark was winning everything at the back and Stephen Simmons was immense in midfield also, a lot of effort and tackles from him.[LNB]"Stephen actually had our best effort in the second half when Jamie Langfield made a great save down at his left hand.[LNB]"If that had gone in then two-nil would have probably been a big mountain for them to climb."[LNB][LNB]
