McGhee: Discipline is a two-way street

The Dons have had five players sent off this season, the latest being Jerel Ifil who missesSaturday's SPL visit of Hamilton through suspension.[LNB]McGhee felt most of the red cards were harsh but criticised Ifil for lashing out at Celtic striker Georgios Samaras in the 3-0 defeat at Parkhead last weekend.[LNB]And after several SPL managers spoke out against refereeing standards this week, McGhee decided to take a stand against indiscipline in his squad.[LNB]Any player who steps out of line will have to give their time to projects run by the club's community and commercial departments, who liaise with police and council officials.[LNB]McGhee told RedTV: "It's in response to all the talk about discipline. I feel very strongly it's a two-way thing.[LNB]"The authorities have responsibility to referee but we as clubs and managers have to make sure our players are doing everything they can to play within the laws and make the game as easy as possible for the referee.[LNB]"We don't want suspensions, as has been the case on five or six separate occasions already this season.[LNB]"So we've decided to put out a strong message that we're supporting the authorities.[LNB]"I've never been a manager who felt it was fair to fine players money. I don't think we have any right to do that.[LNB]"If any player challenged it, you would probably find it's illegal.[LNB]"I felt we had to come up with something that is strong on the players, but also gives a little something back as well.[LNB]"We're not about to send players out to dig up roads, but we will introduce an increasing level of fines based on their own time.[LNB]"If there's a situation where there is something on like a coaching session or a seminar, then the player who's had a red or yellow card will be available.[LNB]"Anyone who gets a yellow will have an hour to give us outside of their work. This is extra to the work the boys already do to help the commercial and community department."[LNB]Hamilton's SPL win over Hearts last weekend yielded red cards for five players and McGhee expects a stern test despite a 3-0 win over a much-changed Accies side in August.[LNB]"We gave them a bit of whipping earlier in the season when really they weren't ready," McGhee added.[LNB]"They are now looking like a team again. But we are improved on the team that beat them."[LNB]Meanwhile, McGhee is hoping to receive Manchester City's permission to extend 20-year-old midfielder Paul Marshall's trial spell.[LNB]"He has done well to the point where we have asked him to come back next week," McGhee said. "We are waiting for Man City to make a decision.[LNB]"He really enjoyed it and I would love to say yes to it, but to be fair to him he has got to really be in contention to play. There is no use him coming to sit on the bench.[LNB]"I've got to be sure we can use him and I've not seen enough to know for sure whether he is."[LNB]One player moving is Stuart Duff, who has joined Inverness on a month-long loan deal.[LNB][LNB][LNB]
