Maguire blasts Hearts time wasters

The 20-year-old was annoyed with how long Csaba Laszlo's men took to take set-pieces during the tense Scottish Premier League encounter. Marius Zaliukas was sent off for the visitors during the match, but Aberdeen could not break down their opponents, leaving Maguire fuming at what he perceived to be stalling tactics. He said: "They can maybe do it a couple of times but the referee has got to get a hold of it. "There was the amount of time the keeper held the ball in his hands before he kicked it and the time they took at goal-kicks and throw-ins. It all adds up. There should have been more time added on and more bookings. "They would have taken a point from the beginning and the way they sat in and time wasted frustrated us. "We are disappointed with the way they acted but you need the referee to stand up and be counted." However, Maguire believed the Dons had enough chances to take all three points from the game. "We hit the post twice and we were a wee bit unfortunate not to get one of them," he said. "Jamie Smith, in particular, had a really good chance. It leaves us now with a mountain to climb." Maguire was involved in the major talking point of the match, when Lithuanian defender Zaliukas was given a straight red for an off-the-ball kick at the striker. He said: "It was just a coming together. I walked across him and he had a stamp out. I tried to walk past again and he has had a backheel at me. "Thankfully, the linesman was in the right position at the time, flagged the referee and he got sent off." The Aberdeen striker believes his side may now need to beat Rangers at the weekend to keep their dreams of European qualification alive. "If we are going for Europe, which we are, I think the three points would set us up nicely," he said. "I don't know if a draw would rule us out but we will be going there for all three points. "We know we could have got something against Hearts and the fact that Dundee United lost to Celtic makes it all the more frustrating. "We will need everybody to perform well at Ibrox if we are going to get the result we are looking for." Aberdeen will be without Jamie Smith, whose season looks to be over after he was forced off last night with a recurrence of a hamstring injury. Manager Jimmy Calderwood has admitted the problem could scupper the midfielder's hopes of earning a new contract. Meanwhile, Hearts manager Laszlo hopes to patch things up with Calderwood over a stiff drink. The Dons boss was also critical of the tactics adopted by the Hearts players during the match. Laszlo said: "I am sorry for Zaliukas' red card but it is not important to talk about that now. "Aberdeen had two or three chances to win and if they had gone in then we would not be talking about the resting time of my players. "I think if my colleague (Jimmy Calderwood) has calmed down the next time we meet, we will drink a beer or a whisky and talk about this game and the pressure. "The next game will have the same pressure - this is our life." Rangers 2/7, Draw 4/1, Aberdeen 8/1
