Kerr angered by Dons doubters

Aberdeen skipper Mark Kerr has reacted angrily to suggestions that the Dons' players have not given 100 per cent this season.[LNB] The club captain has mounted a staunch defence of his team-mates, insisting that while they can be accused of underperforming this term, it is out of order to claim they have not been trying.[LNB]"That's a pretty embarrassing question to ask actually, if you think I'm going to talk about my team-mates like that," said the 28-year-old, who has skippered the Dons during what is their worst season for six years.[LNB]"I don't think any one of the boys doesn't give 100 per cent.[LNB]"Obviously, when things go wrong, fans are going to say these things.[LNB]"I don't think it's true.[LNB]"I don't think things have gone to plan or gone great at certain times.[LNB]"But there's no danger of questioning any one of the boys' professionalism."[LNB]This season will see Aberdeen finish outside the top six of the Scottish Premier League for the first time since 2004.[LNB]They play their final match before the league splits when St Johnstone visit Pittodrie tomorrow.[LNB]Midfielder Kerr said: "The way we've kind of let ourselves down in the last few weeks - or maybe even longer - it's just put us in a position now to see how high we can finish up the league and try to stay away from the relegation fight."[LNB]The Dons showed signs of a return to form in Wednesday night's 3-1 defeat at Rangers.[LNB]Kerr believes that may have been down to the quality of the surface at Ibrox, suggesting it may be more of a "scrap" for the remainder of the season.[LNB]"It's a totally different story going there and playing on a pitch where you can pass the ball," he said.[LNB]"You don't need to be looking for the ball going over your foot when you're playing simple passes."[LNB]He added: "The bottom six is going to be a scrap.[LNB]"I don't think we're going to be able to pass the ball the way we passed it on Wednesday at certain times."[LNB]Aberdeen find themselves in eighth place after winning just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions and Kerr is demanding a sprint finish from his side to buoy supporters ahead of next season.[LNB]"We would want to win our last six games and maybe give these fans a bit of hope for next season that they can come back and it's going to get better," he said.[LNB]"It's pride as well. It's embarrassing walking off the park 10 games in a row or 11 games in a row when you've not had a win."[LNB]Kerr is one of a number of players out of contract this summer and he believes the fact the club now knows they are in the bottom six will lead to decisions over his and others' futures.[LNB]The midfielder hopes to land a new deal, saying: "Being a captain of Aberdeen's a big honour.[LNB]"It's not gone the way I'd have wanted it to go but, hopefully, it'll get better and I'll stay the captain and go onto better things next year."
