Jimmy upbeat on injuries

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood hopes to have a fully-fit squad to choose from when the Dons play their opening UEFA Cup group game against Greek side Panathinaikos later this month.

Calderwood currently has a lengthy injury list to contend with but the international break has come at just the right time for the club.

He told the Press & Journal: "Michael Hart's had the operation to remove his tonsils now and is recovering.

"Darren Mackie and Jamie Smith will both rejoin the group for training on Tuesday after injuries and Chris Clark will have the plaster taken off his Achilles injury on Friday.

"We're hoping that everybody will be fit to get on the plane to Greece next Tuesday.

"The international break came at a good time for us because it's given the players a rest after a hectic period.

"The UEFA Cup is not as intense as the Champions League but it still puts a strain on the squad and it's important we regroup before going into another busy spell."
