Jimmy clinging to European hope

The Dons go into the match five points behind the Edinburgh side who are currently leading the race to finish third in the Scottish Premier League. However Calderwood wants his players to go all out for victory and bring themselves back in the hunt for the two Europa League qualification places. He said: "Hearts is another must-win game for us. Obviously if we draw and Dundee United lose at Celtic it might still be OK but it would make life an awful lot easier for us if we could win the game. "We have to attack them from the start as a draw would be a better result for them than it would be for us." The Aberdeen boss said his side's 1-0 home win over the Jambos back in December was one of his best experiences at the club. He hopes the Red Army are out in force again tomorrow evening to create another noisy atmosphere at Pittodrie. "We had that phase after Christmas when we played Hearts, Rangers and Celtic at home in quick succession and that was wonderful," he said. "The supporters were absolutely fabulous and Pittodrie was a very special place for those three games. The game against Hearts on December 27 was probably one of the best experiences I have had since I came to the club. "We know what it can be like at Pittodrie in the big games and we need that again tomorrow night." However the Aberdeen boss hopes the match will be remembered for the right reasons rather than Hearts' last trip to Pittodrie which ended with a bust-up in the tunnel and the away dressing room door being damaged. Calderwood said: "Don't get me wrong, there is always an edge to the games but there are also an awful lot of good football players on show. Hopefully we are talking about our football and a victory tomorrow night. "Hearts are a very strong team and they have a number of players that we will have to watch out for. Lee Wallace has had a wonderful season, Andrew Driver is a great player to watch, Michael Stewart is somebody who I think very highly of and Bruno Aguiar is probably the best of the lot. They have a very good team but so do we." The Dons will be without the suspended Mark Kerr for the match following his sending-off against Dundee United. Andrew Considine, Darren Mackie, Tommy Wright, Derek Young and Zander Diamond are also out through injury. However Calderwood took some comfort from the fact that Hearts will also have to shuffle their pack as defender Christos Karipidis is suspended following his red card against Hibernian. He added: "They aren't quite in the same situation as us because they have most of their players fit. But they will have to change it with Karipidis out so they may bring Robbie Neilson into the centre or Eggert Jonsson may play there as he did the last time when we played them. We will just have to wait and see."
