Jack Features In Revamped Scotland Squad

Dons midfielder Ryan Jack is one of several new faces in Gordon Strachan's latest Scotland squad.

Jack receives his first full Scotland call up for next month's match against Croatia in Zagreb as Strachan starts the rebuilding process following a catastrophic Brazil 2014 qualification campaign. The squad still features a number of players who have spectacularly and repeatedly failed to perform in the navy blue, such as James Morrison and Gary Caldwell. However, things are heading in the right direction as for the first time in recent memory there are more players who ply their trade in Scotland in the squad than those who play in the English lower leagues - nine to eight.Despite this, only two of the 17 English-based Scots turned out for a team that finished in the top half of that country's Premier League - a league that is generally considered to have been one of the poorest in terms of quality and its top teams' European performances since its inception in 1992.Plus there is an absence of any players from SPL runners-up Motherwell, nor third place St Johnstone and Highland clubs Inverness CT and Ross County who deservedly finished in the league's top five. But Rome wasn't built in a day and things seem to be getting better in terms of squad selection criteria - and hopefully Jack will receive some game time after what will hopefully be the first of many call-ups.
