The new Dons skipper is not shying away from comparisons with the greatest captain AFC's ever had. AMBITIOUS new Dons captain Paul Hartley is determined to usher through a new era at Pittodrie - but is using the club's previous successes to drive him on. Aberdeen FC's rich history holds no fears for Hartley, who instead relishes the chance to get the club back winning silverware again. And he plans to follow in the footsteps of Aberdeen's legendary captain and current Director of Football Willie Miller by being a figurehead both on the pitch and behind the scenes. Hartley told the Scottish Sun: "It's a fantastic honour for me to be captain of Aberdeen - and I feel especially proud when I look at the photos inside the stadium. "I look at Willie Miller lifting trophies and I'm desperate to follow him. "It's a club steeped in tradition. It's not happened for a while here, too long. It's my ambition to change that. "I think everybody's bought into my thinking. I'm not in here to be the big bad wolf. I'm in here to look after the players. "They are my team-mates. I want to look after them as best I can and I won't hesitate to go to the manager or Willie Miller if I feel something can be done to improve their lot. "I want us to have a real winning mentality." The man Hartley hopes to emulate has been waxing lyrical to the new captain about the young players at Pittodrie - and Hartley is determined to use his experience to ensure they reach their potential. Hartley said: "I knew Willie Miller had high hopes of the youngsters here. He told me all about them during our talks. Now I can see what he's talking about. "It's a privilege for me to be a mentor figure for them and I'll do everything I can to bring them on as players."   Subscribe to Updates Via Email | Recieve News Updates Via RSS Latest Topics From the Stand Free Message Board Click here to share your views with other Dons Fans
