Gannon will stick to his principles

The Fir Park club qualified for the preliminary stages of the Europa League courtesy of the Fair Play Award last term and Gannon believes his side are capable of doing so again.[LNB]He said: "When I was in Ireland we won the Fair Play Award at Dundalk and we also won it last year at Stockport out of the 92 teams in England.[LNB]"We encourage our players to play the game honestly and fairly but also in the spirit of the game.[LNB]"You won't see my team time wasting, trying to deceive the referee or keeping the ball in the corner.[LNB]"That is not our game and not the way in which the game should be played. It is not naive, it is good principles that lead to good football."[LNB]The Well boss criticised Aberdeen striker Lee Miller for trying to win a penalty for the Dons after colliding with Steven Saunders in the box during Saturday's 0-0 draw at Pittodrie.[LNB]He said: "I think Stevie was just shepherding him away and for such a big, strong lad to go down so easily is disappointing, especially with the current climate and the way in which we are talking about deceiving the referee.[LNB]"I would want one of my players to be more honest in that situation.[LNB]"However, I don't think diving is a big issue up here in Scotland. I think, in large, the players are dead honest and give everything. It is up to the individual and the manager to espouse the right principles."[LNB]Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee is still keen to add to his threadbare squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.[LNB]The Dons boss said: "I'd like to get one or two more players in but whether we can afford that and if we are going to get them I don't know. I would like to think we might get someone in."[LNB]McGhee handed new signing Davide Grassi his debut as a second-half substitute against the Steelmen.[LNB]The Aberdeen manager was impressed by the Italian defender but believes he still has to work on certain elements of his game before he becomes the finished article.[LNB]He added: "Physically he is a good specimen and he is good on the ball. Defensively it looks like he needs work. He is certainly brave enough, he is good in the air and he has got all the attributes.[LNB]"He is a little bit like Charlie Mulgrew in the sense they both have to work on the same things but they will be able to work on them together."[LNB][LNB] Scottish Premier League.
