Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee last week officially requested permission to open pre-contract talks with O'Brien, who he brought to Fir Park from Celtic at the start of last season.[LNB]The 22-year-old, whose deal expires at the end of the campaign, was subsequently left out of the squad for the 3-2 Clydesdale Bank Premier League defeat by Celtic.[LNB]Gannon accepts O'Brien's right to sort out his long-term future but has urged him to make sure it does not affect his game.[LNB]"That's part of the process of football, the laws are there," Gannon said. "It's important that players have the scope to be able to secure their long-term futures, either at their own clubs or other clubs.[LNB]"I think the most important thing is it doesn't distract Jim from what he's trying to achieve day to day. He's a young man and he just needs to let the agent deal with any contract issues and just get on with playing. That would be my advice to Jim and it has been my advice to Jim."[LNB][LNB]
