Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has started searching for a new goalkeeper after confirming that Ryan Esson is set to leave the club after rejecting the offer of a new Pittodrie contract.
Calderwood has already snapped up Norwegian teenager Frederick Engelhardt this week but is now keen to sign an experienced shot-stopper.
"I'm an eternal optimist and always hoped Ryan would stay, but he has decided against it," said the Aberdeen manager.
"I can understand it but it is still disappointing. He's a local lad, great to have in the dressing-room and we'll miss him around Pittodrie."
Calderwood has been linked with Scotland international Paul Gallacher who is out of contract at Norwich City.
