Eight axed by Dons

Aberdeen have released eight youngsters as boss Jimmy Calderwood continues his long-term ambition to improve standards at Pittodrie. Fraser Stewart, Mark Thomas, Lee Jones, Andrew Bagshaw, Willie John Kiely, Brian Neill, Kenny Haswell and James Petrie will not be offered new deals by the Dons. The club's director of football, Willie Miller, told the Press & Journal: "We need to make space for new lads to come in next season. "It's obviously not very pleasant telling the lads that they'll be moving on and I'm sure they'll be determined to show the club that we've made the wrong decision."
