Aberdeen have been told they must increase their £175,000 offer if they are serious about signing Dundee striker Steve Lovell.
The 24-year-old is expected to move on following the Dark Blues' relegation, but manager Jim Duffy insisted that does not mean he will allow his leading scorer to leave on the cheap.
"Clubs sometimes try to take advantage when you are relegated, and we have had that situation before," Duffy told the Press & Journal.
"I have no problem with Aberdeen looking after their own interests, but our directors will decide whether they feel the offers are acceptable or not.
"If all the parties are happy with what is on offer from Aberdeen then fine, but if only one of us is, then it won't happen.
"All three parties have to be happy with the arrangement and, at this moment in time, that is not the case.
"Aberdeen are saying they are one of the top three or four clubs in the country, either based on their fan base or by reputation. If that is the case, they should make bids in accordance with their stature."
