Dons still chasing McNaughton deal

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has not given up hope of persuading Scotland defender Kevin McNaughton to stay at Pittodrie next season.

The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has been offered lucrative deals by several English championship clubs.

The Dons cannot afford to match the terms on offer, but Calderwood believes that McNaughton may still choose to stay on because he is happy living in Scotland.

"We will do everything within our capabilities to keep Kevin," he told the Evening Express.

"But the decision is purely down to the player and we can't do anything more financially.

"He has to decide if he wants to move to England, but is he going to be happy there? Would he be playing regular first-team football at another club?

"That is the choice Kevin has to make and no-one else can decide that for him.

"I like to think that I'm a persuasive man and if I can convince him to stay then that would be a real boost."
