Dons stay interests Young
07 Nov 2008 - 10:50:49
Derek Young would be happy to commit his future to Aberdeen by penning a new long-term contract at Pittodrie.
The 28-year-old midfielder returned to the Dons in the summer of 2007 after being released by Partick Thistle and is keen to repay boss Jimmy Calderwood for showing such faith in him.
Young said: "I'm one of six players that are out of contract this season but I'm pretty sure we'll learn what's going to happen soon as the club normally opens negotiations on new contracts around Christmas.
"If we keep progressing I'll be more than happy to sign on again. I know what this club is all about and the manager probably needs guys like me around the place to tell people how things are. It's a huge club.
"There are a lot of young boys whom I can pass a lot of experience on to. If they have anything they want to talk about I'm always there.
"If something goes wrong in training you need to speak to the boys instead of shouting at them. When I was growing up here I benefited from the advice of older team-mates and hopefully I can do the same."
