Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has revealed he failed with a deadline day bid for Hibernian forward Dean Shiels.
Calderwood hoped to exploit the fact that Shiels is in the final year of his contract at Easter Road, but Hibs refused to sell.
The Dons boss remains a fan of the Northern Ireland international and has not ruled out making a new bid in January.
"We did try to sign Dean from Hibs and I thought there was a very good chance of him coming to us," he told the Evening Express.
"Dean is a very good young player and we thought we had him until Hibs changed their minds.
"January is a long way off so we will have to see what his situation is then, but there will be other players in a similar position."
Shiels, 21, has netted ten goals in 58 SPL outings since joining Hibs from Arsenal in 2004.
