Dons fail with Mulgrew appeal

Aberdeen have failed with an appeal to overturn a red card shown to Charlie Mulgrew during last weekend's controversial 2-1 defeat by Hibernian.

Mulgrew was dismissed for handling Steven Fletcher's goalbound effort on the line despite the Hibs striker being in an offside position.

Derek Riordan rubbed salt into the wounds by converting the resulting spot-kick to secure the three points for the Edinburgh club.

"Having viewed the video evidence, the referee acknowledged that it clearly shows player Steven Fletcher was in an offside position when he struck the ball," read an SFA statement.

"However, given the circumstances, the referee had to conclude that the player was correctly sent off."
