Dons boss praises McDonald

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood hailed the performance of midfielder Gary McDonald in the 2-1 home victory over Falkirk.

The 26-year-old former Kilmarnock and Oldham Athletic schemer has settled in slowly since his arrival at Pittodrie last summer, but Calderwood believes that McDonald is beginning to show his class.

He told the Daily Record: "I thought Gary was fabulous.

"It was really difficult for him because he has had to sit out for a few weeks since coming here, but he has really come on and he is dominating training.

"Gary is quite a quiet, unassuming kid and I think at first he was taken aback by the size of the club.

"He is great at timing his runs into the box and getting himself into positions to score. There are goals in him, which is great for the lad and great for us."
