Dons aim to keep Smith

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood remains hopeful of keeping midfielder Jamie Smith at Pittodrie.

The 26-year-old former Celtic trainee is out of contract in the summer and is free to talk to any potential suitors over a free transfer switch in January.

But Calderwood is keen to keep hold of the midfielder and still believes he could sign a new contract.

He told the Aberdeen Evening Express: "At the moment it looks about 50-50 if Jamie will sign a new deal.

"He is free to talk to other people from January 1 so there is the fear that he could go for a free in a month.

"But there are always worries over any contractual talks with players of that ability.

"Hopefully we can still get the contract talks finished soon. We are working hard to keep him but we can only do our best."

Meanwhile, Dons captain Russell Anderson has been named the SPL's player of the month for November.
