Aberdeen are set to officially confirm the signing of goalkeeper Mark Howard from St Mirren.

The 23-year-old lost his place to Paul Gallacher last season, making just two appearances to add to the 50 starts he made in his first two years in Paisley.

Pittodrie boss Mark McGhee told the Evening Express: "We have signed Mark on a one-year deal. Now the challenge for Mark is to put pressure on Jamie Langfield for that number one jersey."

Meanwhile, Dons target Evan Horwood was back training with Hartlepool on Monday after a brief visit to Aberdeen.

The former Carlisle left-back, who played in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League during a loan spell with Gretna, trained with Aberdeen on Friday.

But he had previously agreed to join Hartlepool on their pre-season tour of Holland and flew out on Sunday evening.
