Dons slam 'misleading' reports
An irate McGhee cancelled a pre-match press conference set to take place on Friday afternoon following what have been described as "misleading" reports suggesting he would rest players against the Hoops in a bid to have his strongest team available for next week's Scottish Cup replay against Raith Rovers.[LNB]A statement on the club's website read: "Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee today cancelled his pre-match media conference ahead of tomorrow's game with Celtic at Pittodrie.[LNB]"Mark and everyone at the club were understandably unhappy following misleading headlines in numerous morning newspapers suggesting the manager would be resting players and fielding a weakened side in tomorrow's match."[LNB]The Dons were held to a 1-1 draw by Scottish First Division side Raith at the first time of asking and will face them again on Tuesday in a bid to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.[LNB]Former Celtic striker McGhee had been quoted as saying: "We do not necessarily have to beat Celtic on Saturday to finish fourth in the SPL and make Europe.[LNB]"We do have to beat Raith in the cup. We need our strongest squad to be fit for Tuesday so I will need to be careful who I pick.[LNB]"It might be I'll make changes for Saturday to make sure the best team is clear to face Raith. It's something I have to look at carefully."[LNB]However, Darren Mackie believes the visit of Celtic is the ideal opportunity to win back the support of fans who were furious at their team's inability to see off Raith.[LNB]Aberdeen have lost four out of their last five home SPL games and the striker insists a win over the Hoops can help ease the frustration of recent results.[LNB]He said: "It is good to have the fans back on my side and the team can also win the supporters over.[LNB]"Getting a good result against Celtic will go a long way to helping them achieve that."[LNB]Meanwhile, McGhee has identified Robbie Keane as the main threat within Celtic's ranks as the player seeks to add to the penalty he netted against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup.[LNB]The Dons boss handed the on-loan Tottenham striker his debut while at Wolves and knows exactly what Keane is capable of.[LNB]He told Aberdeen Evening Express: "Robbie is always dangerous but he will be fired up even more tomorrow because he will be desperate to get that first goal in open play.[LNB]"If our defence want to stop him they are going to have to concentrate from the very first whistle to the last."[LNB][LNB] Aberdeen v Celtic.
