The 27-year-old was training with Hearts but they have not followed up their initial interest, and now the Edinburgh club's SPL rivals are keen to sign MacLean.[LNB]Dons boss Mark McGhee is confident an initial loan deal is in the offing, he told the Morning Western News: "I have spoken to Paul Sturrock at Plymouth and Steven MacLean's representative, Blair Morgan, and more or less had a loan deal done with both of them.[LNB]"But Steven is determined that he wants to leave Plymouth permanently, so I have asked to speak to him personally. When I do that, I will explain we have honourable intentions of bringing him here for the long term.[LNB]"In the meantime, it would do him no harm to come here on loan. It is a waiting game for now. He may well be waiting to see what arises elsewhere, so it could be nothing happens until the end of the month.[LNB]"It tends to be the way in January as nobody shows their hand this early."[LNB][LNB]
