Dons confidence 'fragile' - McGhee

Aberdeen go into Tuesday night's Scottish Premier League match against St Johnstone without a victory in nine games.[LNB]Zander Diamond's equaliser at Hamilton in their previous game prevented their losing streak hitting four matches but Aberdeen go into the game just seven points off the top six, with two games in hand, after Hearts lost at Motherwell on Saturday while the Dons were inactive.[LNB]McGhee said: "The confidence is fragile, that's absolutely without doubt, but it doesn't take much to just tip it the other way.[LNB]"To go to St Johnstone and get the first goal and go on and win the game could make a huge difference to the rest of our season in terms of confidence never mind results.[LNB]"We can play a lot better than we did to get the draw at Hamilton, so it's not just about sneaking it we want to play well.[LNB]"We have a performance in us and that's what we want to produce going into these remaining games."[LNB]Aberdeen also face St Johnstone at home before the split and McGhee admits they need to beat them twice after the Perth side moved above the Dons in the table on Saturday.[LNB]The former Motherwell manager said: "I think so (it is a must win game), although we have St Johnstone to play once more to have any chance of making the top six and I think we'll have to win twice against them.[LNB]"They've pretty much hit the ground running, they've played with no fear that's for sure.[LNB]"I saw them beat Falkirk on Saturday in a game which was difficult to call and, on a pitch which was difficult, they kept going right to the end until they got the winning goal so I have been very impressed by them."[LNB]McGhee is solely focused on the Saints fixture as he bids to end a poor run of form.[LNB]He added: "Hearts lost again which was a good thing but more importantly for us is that we have got to win games, ultimately it's up to us. If we win games we have a chance if we don't, even if they keep losing, we won't have a chance.[LNB]"All's not lost but we've shown no real signs that we're going to go on and win two, three or four games in a row.[LNB]"So we have to stay in the present, we've got a game against St Johnstone and everything else we can speculate about is irrelevant if we don't win that game."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
