Dons bring in defender on trial

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee has taken former Gretna left-back Evan Horwood, who left Carlisle at the end of the season, on trial.[LNB] Horwood had been training with Hartlepool and was due to fly out on their pre-season tour of Holland on Sunday.[LNB]But the 24-year-old, who made 17 appearances for Gretna during their season in the Scottish Premier League, has accepted Aberdeen's trial invitation instead.[LNB]Horwood was on loan at Gretna from Sheffield United and moved to Carlisle in January 2008 before being surprisingly released by the Cumbrian club after making 93 appearances.[LNB]Horwood joins former West Ham youth team midfielder Conor Okus on trial at Pittodrie but former Leeds goalkeeper Ryan Jones has returned to England.[LNB]
