Dons boss McGhee vows to fight on

Mark McGhee has vowed to battle on as Aberdeen manager, despite his side slumping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.[LNB] A Grant Munro header nine minutes from time gave Caley the victory after goals from Andrius Velicka and Adam Rooney had cancelled each other out, leaving the Dons have with just four points from their last possible 30.[LNB]Following the devastating 9-0 defeat to Celtic they are dismal statistics but the Dons boss said he had no intentions of walking away from the job and believes the spirited display shown by his players vindicates his belief that he can turn things around.[LNB]He said: "I was totally and utterly content with the attitude shown by the players and the way they went about their business tonight. They can't accuse us of all that rubbish of having lost the dressing room after that. There is a lot more to come from this squad and I'm content we can improve on tonight. Again we didn't get any breaks with Darren Mackie and Ryan Jack going off with injuries as well as the penalty that went against us which I thought was soft. I'm disappointed with the result but onwards and upwards."[LNB]McGhee hit back at reports that his side had to beat Inverness in order to keep his job.[LNB]He said: "Where did that talk come from? I will tell you who, it is the people who were cheering when we lost a last minute goal at St Mirren, the people who sit in this room and ask me these types of questions. Those are the people that are putting that out there.[LNB]"Stewart Milne, Willie Miller and Duncan Fraser, the board, they are the people that make the decisions and I know what they are thinking. As far as I'm concerned we are in at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning for training and as long as I don't get a phone call I will be here to do that."[LNB]McGhee said that he was heartened by the backing he received from the Aberdeen support.[LNB]He added: "We were all holding our breath to see what the reaction from the fans would be like and I was getting told about this and that on websites and fanzines but from the moment I walked out onto the pitch until the end of the match when we have lost 2-1 all I heard was encouragement.[LNB]"As long as that is the case I'm still up for the job. I still believe we are going to get better and since I got here I said we would need three or four transfer windows to turn it around. I still see a way forward and a positive future for this club."[LNB]Inverness Caley manager Terry Butcher was delighted that his side managed to preserve their impressive unbeaten away record which stretches back to last November.[LNB]The win moves the Highlanders up to fourth position in the SPL.[LNB]He said: "It was a very difficult game for our players given the circumstances but we had to make it about us, not Aberdeen. I think if the boys took on board the circus that had surrounded this game it may have affected their performance but we played well.[LNB]"I think the Aberdeen players acquitted themselves well and played well for their manager and their club and gave us a really tough game. It wasn't a pretty match of football and we had to grit it out but we managed to come away with the three points."
